There are three types of rib; true, false, and floating. Whay do we have rib? Well, ribcage prothorect our heart and lungs. Our ribcage is assembled from three types of bone-sternum, 12 pairs of ribs and 12 thoracic vertebrae.
All of our rib attach to our spine, but only the top seven pairs connect to our sternum. These are known as “true ribs”. The next three pairs of ribs are known as “false ribs”. Instead of attaching directly to our sternum, they all attach to our lowest true rib. The last two pairs of ribs called “floating ribs” these only attach to our spine.
